Facta
Mixmag Lab London | A|X Armani Exchange
We appreciate a DJ who isn't afraid to take a left turn, to follow a bassline down a dark alley just to see where it leads. Facta's Mixmag Lab London set for Armani Exchange is a wonderfully varied expedition through bass-heavy techno, electronica, and house, all filtered through a distinctly UK lens. The lab feels like a curated listening party, where the boundaries between club tools and home listening blissfully blur. Facta navigates a wide BPM range from 112 to 146, but smartly uses the anchoring key of 12A to maintain cohesion across the diverse terrain. The mixing is thoughtful and musical, often allowing tracks to play out and establish their own identity before elegantly segueing into the next.
The energy is thoughtfully distributed, with a strong low-end foundation (55%) supporting detailed mid-range activity (41%), creating a sound that's both physical and intricately layered. It's a set that rewards active listening as much as dancing. The selections showcase a brilliant ear. 'Castle' opens with mysterious, cinematic ambience before the punchy, driving techno of Veerus's 'Phase' kicks the door in. The rework of Oxia's 'Domino' is a slick, modern take on a classic, while Pangaea's 'Installation' offers a moment of skittering, abstract UK bass.
For a sheer, uncomplicated rush, Dom Dolla's 'San Frandisco' is deployed with perfect timing. The Lucius Young remix provides a deep, melodic house interlude. The journey is a true odyssey: beginning in a shadowy castle, traversing driving techno plains and textured electronica forests, before finding its way home via the dusty, melodic keys of Dale Howard's 'Rogue Keys'.
