Awakenings ADE 2019 - Joseph Capriati
Nothing says Awakenings ADE quite like a horde of techno tourists taking standard-issue flash photos of the lasers while completely ruining their retinas. We've got the full Berghain queue cosplay going on here, with everyone draped in asymmetrical black fabric looking profoundly unhappy to be having the time of their lives. If you listen closely, you can hear a modular synth bro complaining that the kick drum isn't analogue enough. The colossal Gashouder is a cauldron of sweat, dry ice, and strobes, with a relentless energy that feels like standing inside a jet engine. This Joseph Capriati live set is a pure, unadulterated Techno assault, hammering away at an average 131.1 BPM.
The soundscape is heavily skewed towards a punishing low-end, designed to rattle the industrial architecture. Capriati leans heavily on the 12A key, creating a dark, cyclical, and unyielding harmonic tension that rarely lets up. His mixing is characteristically aggressive, utilizing quick, percussive cuts to maintain maximum momentum. The tune selection here is absolutely mad, blending driving modern techno with massive curveballs. Dropping Robert Miles' 'Children (Dream Version)' in the middle of a techno set is a brilliantly cheeky move that catches everyone off guard.
He also does serious damage with Space 92's 'Apollo'. The Joseph Capriati Awakenings ADE 2019 tracklist is a masterfully constructed marathon of power. The opening track, Apigo Meets Clarity's 'Falling For You (Dub)', builds the tension perfectly before the drop. The set peaks with Alberto Ruiz's 'Domo', an absolute warehouse destroyer, before finally concluding with the closing track, Tomash Kofa's 'FZV'.
