Frequently Asked Questions
How does the step sequencer work?
8 channels (kick, snare, closed hat, open hat, clap, rim, tom, perc) across 16 steps at 16th-note resolution. Click cells to toggle hits. On desktop you see the full 8×16 grid. On mobile, tap pads to select and audition a channel, then edit its 16 steps in a mini-sequencer below.
What sounds are included?
Eight 808-style sounds synthesized in real-time with Web Audio — no samples loaded. Kick uses a 150→40 Hz frequency ramp with 480ms decay. Snare combines two sine oscillators with bandpass-filtered noise. Hi-hats are highpass-filtered noise at 7kHz with short (50ms) and long (300ms) envelopes. Clap layers four staggered noise bursts. Tom ramps 300→80 Hz.
How does swing work?
Swing delays every odd-numbered step by a percentage of the step duration. At 0% swing, all steps are evenly spaced (straight 16ths). At 50% swing, odd steps shift halfway toward the next beat, creating a shuffle feel. The slider goes from 0-75%. Swing applies to both real-time playback and WAV export.
What are the genre presets?
Seven presets that set both the pattern and tempo: Empty (128 BPM), 808 Hip-Hop (90 BPM, 30% swing), House 4/4 (124 BPM), Drum & Bass (174 BPM), Afrobeats (108 BPM, 15% swing), Reggaeton (95 BPM), and Lo-fi (85 BPM, 50% swing). Each preset programs a characteristic rhythm across all 8 channels.
Does closed hi-hat choke the open hi-hat?
Yes. Triggering the closed hi-hat immediately silences any ringing open hi-hat — the same behavior as a real hi-hat stand. This is handled automatically via a voice choke group with a fade-out envelope.
What is the export format?
16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV. The export renders 2 full bars of your pattern plus a 2-second tail for any ringing sounds to decay naturally. The exported file saves to your device and can be imported into any DAW.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. On smaller screens the grid switches to a pad layout — tap any pad to hear and select that channel, then edit its 16 steps in a dedicated mini-sequencer. Per-channel volume is adjustable. All transport controls (play, BPM, swing, preset, export) remain accessible.
