BALTRA in The Lab NYC
BALTRA’s Lab NYC session is a beautifully messy love letter to the 90s, expertly filtered through a modern, lo-fi house sensibility. It’s the set you put on when the party needs to feel intimate, nostalgic, and slightly ragged around the edges. The vibe is a downtown loft party, all exposed brick, fairy lights, and the sweet smell of spilled beer. Technically, it’s a masterfully paced house journey, riding at an average of 125 BPM and heavily favouring the emotive 12A key.
The energy balance is more even than most here, with a solid low-end (45%), expressive mids (38%), and actually present highs (16%) that allow for classic vocal hooks and synth lines to shine. The mixing is quick and eclectic, stitching together everything from garage to tech-house with a playful touch. The crate digging is exceptional. Opening with the stone-cold classic garage of Robin S.'s 'Luv 4 Luv' is a statement of intent.
R.A.W.'s 'Unbe (Erick 'More' Mix)' is a deep, driving weapon, while Skee Mask's 'Routine' provides a glorious, broken-beat detour. Peggy Gou's 'It Makes You Forget' gets a well-deserved airing, and the 18-minute epic 'Drive (DJ Sports Club Mix)' is a lesson in patient, escalating euphoria. The journey kicks off with the iconic vocal of 'Luv 4 Luv', hits a raw, energetic peak with tracks like 'Syncmode - Lurkin', and winds down into the hazy, emotional embrace of Gh05T's 'Just Give Me Your Hand'.
