Zequenx
Mixmag Lab Goa
For those of us who measure a night's success by how much our ears ring the next day, Zequenx's hard techno assault for Mixmag's Lab Goa is the required listening. This isn't a set; it's an endurance test set to a blistering 142.6 BPM. The sonic landscape is relentlessly gray and industrial, anchored in the 12A key for maximum hypnotic pull. The energy is concentrated in a punishing, tectonic low-end at 0.67, with mids at 0.28 providing the rhythmic grit and scant highs at 0.06 for sheer abrasion.
Zequenx mixes with a brutalist efficiency, slamming tracks together to maintain a fever-pitch of intensity. The tracklist is a dossier of underground artillery: it opens with the stark, functionalist rhythm of James Ruskin & Truncate's 'Sketch 3'. Allnighters & BK's 'Black Is Black (BK Remix)' is a monstrous, loop-based sledgehammer. Fireground's 'Recreation' offers a brief, melodic respite before the dive back into the abyss.
The true centerpiece is the 26-minute odyssey of False Persona's 'Orbit', a masterclass in sustained, peak-time tension. The journey is linear and punishing, starting with 'Sketch 3', peaking during the sprawling 'Orbit', and concluding with the live modular chaos of Obscure Machines' 'Session #050 Eat Sleep Techno Repeat'.
