Mixmag Lab Awakenings
SPFDJ at an Awakenings-hosted Mixmag Lab is a brutal, beautiful reminder that hard techno can be both intellectually sharp and physically obliterating, a set that starts with a Charli XCX sample and ends with our nervous systems in tatters. We are all willing participants in this controlled demolition. The vibe is that of a bunker rave at high noon—stark, intense lighting, no-frills production, and a crowd united by the shared need for a 150 BPM catharsis. Technically, this is hard techno of the highest order, averaging a punishing 148 BPM with most tracks revolving around the tonal center of 12A.
Shifts into 3B and 11B introduce moments of eerie melody, but the energy balance—with lows at 0.70—tells the real story: this is about relentless, pounding bass drums and hypnotic, driving loops. The eight-and-a-half-minute exploration of Prime Mover's 'Perfect Organism' is a testament to stamina. For the crate diggers, it's a treasure chest of underground weapons: the audacious pop-to-techno pivot of the 'pink diamond' opener, the raw, jacking fury of Danny Wabbit's 'Go Get Some People', the scorching industrial heat of Manni Dee & River Moon's 'HOT', and the throwback trance fury of De Bellis con Stenzel's 'Come With Me'. Nods to the acid line of 'The Acidpass' and the tough, percussive slam of Perc's 'Resistor' (Tassid Remix) are essential.
The journey is a relentless ascent, kicking off with Charli XCX's distorted glam, peaking in the rhythmic vortex of 'Perfect Organism', and concluding with the epic, melancholic synth lines of DJ Satomi's 'The Fall Of Angels'. A live set that leaves no room for compromise.
