X & Ivy
Mixmag Lab London
X & Ivy’s Mixmag Lab London set is the audio equivalent of being handed a red bull and told to run a marathon—we are here for the relentless, euphoric punishment. The vibe is a sweatbox, strobes slicing through a haze, bodies moving in unison to a four-four hammer. This is hard, driving techno, operating at a fierce average of 136.5 BPM with a tight range between 136 and 140. The key of 12A dominates 13 times, providing a harmonic through-line for the punishing energy.
The energy balance is brutally efficient: lows at a cavernous 0.65, mids at 0.26, and highs at 0.09, meaning the force comes from a monumental kick drum and sub-bass, with synths and vocals sitting neatly in the mid-range. The mixing is fast and functional, keeping the pressure cooker sealed. For track ID hunters, the opener 'Viene Y Va' sets a tough, tribal pace. Their own 'What Is This Sound' is a blistering, peak-time anthem.
Then, the glorious left turns: SL2's rave classic 'On a Ragga Tip' dropped with devastating effect, and Frankie Paul's 'Worries In the Dance' adding a dose of digital dancehall flavor. Marco Bailey's 'Hustler' is a timeless, driving techno weapon. The journey is a sprint from that opening tribal groove, hitting an inevitable peak with the rave nostalgia of 'On a Ragga Tip', before cooling down slightly with the hypnotic, rolling closer 'Hypnotizing' by Andre Zimmer.
