Secret Luvvr has stacks of rare edits
Keep Hush x AIAIAI Presents: Off Sight London
If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like when a DJ raided the hard drive of a crate-digging archivist who also loves Afrobeats, pop edits, and gqom, you’re about to get your answer. Secret Luvvr’s set for Keep Hush x AIAIAI at Off Sight London is a genre-mashing joyride that refuses to sit still. The venue is a warehouse with mismatched sofas and a fog machine that’s been running since 2018 – the kind of place where the DJ is hunched over a laptop, smiling manically as they queue up Naira Marley next to a Lana Del Rey remix. Clock the BPM: averaging 131, but swinging between 125 and 150, which means the energy is constantly in flux. The low and mid bands are nearly balanced (0.48 vs 0.44), creating a thick, propulsive feel that never lets the floor settle into a single rhythm. The key signature is overwhelmingly 12A (eleven tracks!), giving the set a cohesive harmonic backbone despite its wild stylistic jumps.
Secret Luvvr mixes with a cut-and-paste mentality – quick fades, abrupt drops, and occasional beat-matched overlays that sound like a radio dial being spun by a loving hand. The crate-digger delights are plentiful. The Lana Del Rey ‘Summertime Sadness’ MK Lee Foss Cold Blooded Remix is a perverse treat – turning a pop sad-girl anthem into a tech-house stomper that somehow works. Francis Mercier’s double dip on ‘Premier Gaou’ (Nitefreak and Paso Doble remixes) shows off the versatility of that Afro-house classic, each version hitting a different sweet spot. Funky Qla’s ‘Atomic Gqom’ is a curveball – raw, minimalist, and built for the 5am crew. And Antoine Clamaran’s ‘Do the Funk’ dub closes things on a sleazy, heads-down note that feels like the DJ is winking at you from behind the decks. The journey starts with Naira Marley’s ‘Mafo’ – an instant energy injection that gets shoulders rolling.
The peak? Probably the Lana Del Rey remix, which draws the biggest hands-in-the-air moment. And the closing, that Clamaran dub, leaves us wanting more. Secret Luvvr has the edits, and they’re not afraid to use them.
