RIGOONI - DJ Set
When a DJ set is comprised almost entirely of the artist's own remixes, it's either a display of staggering ego or a cohesive vision. Thankfully, RIGOONI's set falls firmly into the latter category, serving as a compelling showcase of his knack for injecting warm, melodic soul into sturdy tech-house and deep house frameworks. The vibe is confident and club-ready, the sound of a DJ who knows his signature and isn't afraid to plaster it over every track—for better or worse, but in this case, it's mostly for the better. Technically, it's a locked-in affair at a steady 120 BPM, creating a relentless, hypnotic groove. The key is dominated by the bright, energetic 12A, appearing a dozen times, which gives the entire set an uplifting, consistent harmonic sheen.
The energy split (64% low, 20% mid, 16% high) is telling: this is a physically powerful mix with a pronounced high-end presence, making it ideal for a main room where clarity and punch are key. RIGOONI's mixing is functional and driving, keeping the momentum high. His remix choices are intriguing. He reworks DJ Zombi's 'The Day After' into a chugging, peak-time tool, and gives Luka Sambe's 'Alive is the Meaning' a more driving, melodic makeover. The inclusion of a track like Shouse's 'Love Tonight' shows a pop sensibility, while D.General & China Charmeleon's 'Filled With Joy' and the afro-house vibes of 'Somandla' add welcome global flavors.
The marathon length of Joe Impero's 'Out of Brain' provides a deep, hypnotic centerpiece. The journey is a linear build of energy. It kicks off with the driving rhythm of his 'The Day After' remix, maintains a high level through various club weapons, and closes with the atmospheric, slightly more subdued tones of his remix of Nicolas Ruiz's 'Agartha'. A solid DJ set statement from RIGOONI.
