Ben Klock
Boiler Room x Glitch Festival 2024
Ben Klock at Glitch Festival is a study in monochrome potency, a techno set that reminds us why the genre’s fundamentalist wing still commands devotion. In the Maltese heat, this is the cool, dark basement we all crave. The vibe is hypnotic and severe, a mass of bodies moving as one under stark, rhythmic lighting. Technically, it’s a masterwork of minimal modulation, holding a steady 140 BPM pulse with the harmonic focus almost exclusively in the driving, powerful key of 12A.
The energy is profoundly low-end dominant—a deep, tunnelling bassline (0.81 avg) that dictates the entire physical experience, with mid-range elements (0.14 avg) used sparingly for texture and accent. Klock’s mixing is patient and tectonic, allowing tracks to merge into a singular, rolling waveform. The crate selections are impeccable, peak-time Berghain fare. 'DJ Jes - Ismael (Temudo Remix Version 1)' is a perfect, looping opener, while 'Activa - Liquefaction (Under Sun Remix)' introduces a shimmering, melodic tension.
'Chlär - Anthem of Division' is exactly that: a brutal, functional weapon. The inclusion of 'MI$uGI666 - M37' shows a taste for raw, industrial-edged sounds. The journey is a linear ascent, from the immersive deep end of 'Ismael', through the rising pressure of 'Liquefaction', and concluding with the resonant, answering synth of 'A.Morgan - The Answer'.
