London | Makaan Takeover
Voicedrone's set for the London Makaan Takeover is a dive into the deep, dark, and deliciously textured end of the pool. We are the ones squinting at the screen, trying to identify that haunting pad or that peculiarly swung hi-hat pattern. The atmosphere is one of focused immersion, a room held captive by subtlety and sound design rather than overt peaks. This is a masterclass in deep, minimal techno, operating at a steady, hypnotic average of 138 BPM. The harmonic journey subtly shifts between the melancholic 7A and the more ambiguous 8A, creating a somber, introspective mood.
The energy is overwhelmingly low-frequency focused (avg 0.68), with mids (0.25) detailing percussive textures and atmospheres, and almost no high-end sparkle (0.03), resulting in a sound that feels physically pressurizing. Mixing is patient and layered, allowing tracks to merge into a continuous, undulating whole. The track selection is impeccable for the heads. Opening with Truth's 'The Illuminated' immediately establishes a cavernous, dubby landscape. The inclusion of a hardclub mix of Temper's 'Work That Body' is a surprising and effective injection of raw, peak-time energy.
For the diggers, 'Untrue - Murderer' is a shadowy, bass-driven weapon, while 'Vilchezz - Before the Roar' builds tension with impeccable restraint. 'Joline Scheffler - Anisoptera (Franz Jäger Remix)' offers a more melodic, almost organic counterpoint, and dropping a snippet of Alice Deejay's 'Better Off Alone' is a wonderfully dry, deconstructed joke. The journey starts in the abyss with 'The Illuminated', reaches its most intense moment with the driving 'Work That Body', and resolves with the crystalline, reduced recall of Border One's 'Split Recall'.
