SHERELLE
Boiler Room x Dekmantel Festival 2022
We know the drill: frantically typing half-heard lyrics into a phone as another amen break obliterates all rational thought. SHERELLE’s Boiler Room takeover at Dekmantel Festival 2022 is a perfect encapsulation of that beautiful, brain-frying pursuit. The Amsterdam tent is a pressure cooker of bouncing limbs and shared, sweat-soaked grins, lit by the stark white glow of the iconic booth. Technically, this is a masterclass in high-velocity propulsion, averaging a blistering 164.7 BPM and firmly rooted in the 12A harmonic zone.
The energy profile is all about that low-end thrust (0.57 low energy), with the mid and high frequencies used sparingly for punctuation—think skittering hats and vocal snippets cutting through a sub-bass foundation. SHERELLE’s mixing is surgical, using long, tension-building blends to keep the harmonic flow locked while letting each track’s distinct drum programming shine. For the crate diggers, the opening ‘Anna Morgan - Turbo Moto’ is a statement of intent with its mangled breaks. ‘DEFT - The Fix’ provides a darker, rolling interlude, while ‘Dwarde - U Don't Know’ offers a moment of swung, almost UKG-inflected groove.
The true deep cut is ‘THUGWIDOW - The faint whimper of a desperate man (Tim Reaper Remix)’, a jungle tear-out that proves her digger credentials. The marathon ‘Raver's Nature - Somebody Scream’ acts as the epic, 13-minute peak, before the set closes on the funky, relentless pressure of ‘D'TCH - Getting Down’. It’s a journey from the ignition of ‘Turbo Moto’ to the final exhale demanded by ‘Getting Down’, with no room for breath in between.
