Pia Collada
Keep Hush Live x Maushi Day x The Daily All Day 2023
Pia Collada’s set for Maushi Day is a joyous, genre-hopping scramble through the past 30 years of dance music, and frankly, it’s the kind of chaotic education we all need sometimes. The vibe is celebratory and slightly unhinged, a day-party where the rules are optional and the only requirement is to move. This is a breakbeat and UK bass odyssey, with a wide BPM range averaging 137.9 and a harmonic anchor, unsurprisingly, in the versatile 12A. The balanced energy between lows (49.9%) and mids (40.7%) allows for both weighty basslines and detailed, rhythmic complexity, creating a rich, engaging listen. Her style is eclectic and bold, stitching together hip-hop, techno, and garage with a punk rock attitude.
The digs are magnificent. Starting with Seedhe Maut & MC Stan's 'Nanchaku' is a furious, Hindi rap intro that immediately claims the space. Denham Audio & Coco Bryce's 'Single Minded People' is a storming breakbeat hardcore revival cut. The techno mix of Indila's 'Dernière danse' is both ridiculous and utterly effective. Dropping a snippet of Rank 1's trance classic 'Airwave' is a nostalgic gut-punch, and JUICY SELEKTA's 'Welcome to London Bruv' is a long, hilarious, and bass-heavy UKG journey.
Closing with Prozak's 'Shine' leaves us on a gritty, electro-tinged high. The set begins with rap fury, detours through hardcore breaks and meme-ready edits, and ends with raw electronic funk. It’s a history lesson, delivered with a wink and a middle finger.
