Palms Trax
Boiler Room x Dekmantel Festival 2018
Palms Trax at Dekmantel is one of those sets where you just accept you'll be Shazam-ing for a week, and we wouldn't have it any other way. The Amsterdam haze is palpable, a crowd of disco-infused house heads moving as one gelatinous mass. The vibe is warm, soulful, and deeply immersive, with smiles all around. Technically, this is a deep, bass-heavy house journey. Averaging 123.4 BPM and primarily in the 12A and 7A keys, the set is built on a foundation of colossal low-end energy (0.81).
The mixing is smooth and musical, using harmonic shifts to 3B to add subtle color while maintaining a fluid, rolling groove. The tight BPM range (122-125) ensures a consistent, chugging pace perfect for extended heads-down moments. The energy arc is a masterclass in sustained pressure, with the high-end carefully rationed to create peaks without ever becoming abrasive. For diggers, it's a treasure trove. Tobias Bernstrup's '27' is a moody, cinematic opener.
Clem Abbott's 'Get More (Mystic Bill Remix)' is a flawless slice of bumping, sample-heavy house. The true left turn is Bassekou Kouyate's 'Jama Ko', a stunning infusion of Malian blues that only a selector with this confidence could pull off. Dennis Ferrer's 'Reach 4 Freedom (DF's Vocal Mix)' provides a soaring, soulful peak. He wraps it up with the raw, jacking acid of Gerome Sportelli's 'Some Acid'. The journey starts with the atmospheric '27', rides a wave of soulful grooves to the highlight of 'Jama Ko', and lands gently on the acidic bounce of 'Some Acid'.
