Keep Hush Manchester: LZ & Friends Takeover
A three-track set. Either a profound artistic statement or a logistical nightmare, and in the hands of LZ and crew at the Keep Hush Manchester takeover, we’re leaning heavily towards the former. This is the deep end of the pool for sound system devotees. The vibe is pure, unadulterated pressure, a dark room where the only movement is the slow, tectonic shift of sub-bass.
Technically, this is a masterclass in minimalist, dub-informed progression, holding a steady 139.5 BPM and exploring the textural differences between keys like 12A, 8B, and 5A across vast, evolving soundscapes. With an energy balance nearly split between low and mid (0.499 and 0.399 avg respectively), it creates a dense, immersive atmosphere where detail and space are equally important, and the occasional high-end flourish (0.101 avg) cuts through like a searchlight. The mixing is inherently collaborative and deep, letting each producer’s section—from Bomma B to Rago Loco—breathe and morph over extended periods. The tracklist may be short, but the impact is huge: the opening 'Norman Bates' by Trends & Boylan sets a tense, cinematic mood, while the 37-minute behemoth 'Bokeh Creeper' by Soloman is the journey itself, a peak-less, endlessly undulating slab of ambient dub and bass.
The narrative arc is simple: from the ominous opening strains, we are submerged entirely into the deep, psychedelic swirl of 'Bokeh Creeper', with no conventional closing, just a gradual return to reality. This dubstep and deep bass live set tracklist is a demanding, rewarding immersion.
