Jaguar
Mixmag Lab London
Jaguar’s Mixmag Lab London set is a gloriously unhinged tour through rave history, for those of us who believe a tracklist should contain both breakbeats and tear-jerking trance. It’s the sonic equivalent of finding a mixtape from 1999 that somehow predicts 2024. The vibe is eclectic and energetic, a lab session that feels like a festival tent hopping between genres.
Technically, it’s a wild ride with a 139.5 BPM average but a range from 91 to 176, anchored by the harmonic familiarity of 12A. The mixing is confident and genre-hopping, using key matches to blend trance euphoria with hardcore breaks, while the energy profile is mid-heavy at 60%, letting melodies soar over lows at 31% and restrained highs at 8%. For crate diggers, the standouts are a feast: DJ Zinc’s “138 Trek” opens with nine minutes of breakbeat prophecy, while Matt Darey & Lost Tribe’s “Gamemaster” is a trance monument dropped with perfect timing.
Chris Lattner & Enzo Siragusa’s “Jazz Fusic” offers a deep, jazzy interlude, and Gigi D’Agostino’s “Bla Bla Bla (Dark Mix)” brings silly, infectious energy. Whigfield’s “Sexy Eyes” is a cheeky eurodance nod, and The Soundlovers’ “Surrender” provides pure, hands-up release. The journey begins with the breakbeat intro of “138 Trek”, peaks with the epic, cascading melodies of “Gamemaster”, and closes on the heartfelt, vocal warmth of Reflekt’s “Need To Feel Loved”.
