CiCi in The Lab Mumbai
Mixmag
CiCi's set for Mixmag Lab Mumbai is a lesson in hypnotic, minimalist techno pressure. This is for the 4 AM crew, where the goal is dissolution into a steady, percussive pulse. The Lab becomes a cocoon of sound, lighting subtle, attention directed solely at the subtle shifts in the groove. Technically, it's remarkably consistent, holding a locked 130 BPM and spending 21 of 29 tracks in the 12A key, creating a deeply immersive, trance-like state. The energy is again low-dominant (64%), with the mid-range (32%) reserved for intricate rhythmic textures and the occasional melodic whisper.
Mixing is patient and precise, allowing tracks like Andrea Salerno's 'Teleri' to develop their full, mesmerizing potential. The selections are pristine. OFFIAH's 'Trouble' is a perfect, brooding opener. ItaloJohnson's typically cryptic '09A1' is a deep, rolling minimal anthem. Andy Compton's 'That Acid Track' introduces a welcome 303 snarl, and Zimmie Gix's 'Absolute Chill' offers a moment of atmospheric respite.
The inclusion of Gigi D'Agostino's 'Bla Bla Bla' here, filtered and looped, is a stroke of absurdist genius. The journey begins in shadows with 'Trouble', builds a dense, percussive peak with Spektre's 'Against a Dark Background', and concludes with the melodic, driving signature of Boris Brejcha's 'Hashtag'.
