Solomun
Théâtre Antique d'Orange in France for Cercle
You haven't lived until you've seen a sea of faux-bohemian influencers having a 'spiritual experience' in a Roman amphitheatre while a DJ does his trademark hip-swing. Reviewing the Solomun Théâtre Antique d'Orange tracklist, it's clear this Solomun live set is catnip for the 'I only listen to melodic house' brigade who spend more time adjusting their sunglasses than moving their feet. Yet, framed by ancient stone walls at the Théâtre Antique d'Orange, the vibe is undeniably magical, with the golden lighting casting massive shadows over a proper having-it crowd. Technically, the big man is in his element, anchoring the groove at a chugging 124.9 BPM.
He expertly navigates the 12A and 7A key progressions, using long, drawn-out transitions to create a hypnotic Rominimal energy arc that slowly boils over. A true crate digger knows Solomun's magic lies in his weird and wonderful selections, and he doesn't disappoint. The inclusion of 'Phuture - Spank Spank' is a brilliant nod to acid house heritage, while 'Whitesquare - Dahlass' brings that weird, wobbly modern flavour. The set's journey is a masterfully paced slow burn.
Setting the tone with the funky, nostalgic opening track 'Bijou Williams Feat. Peo Watson - Chicago 72', he weaves through deep, emotive peaks—highlighted by 'Elax - Reaktor'—before finally bringing the crowd back down to earth with the soulful, uplifting closing track 'Simon - Free at Last'. Absolute class.
