FKJ
live at Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia for Cercle
It's genuinely hilarious watching wanderlust merchants trying to look profoundly moved on a Bolivian salt flat, probably wondering where the VIP bar is. Diving into the FKJ Salar de Uyuni tracklist, this FKJ live set is a magnet for the trust-fund hippies who think a saxophone solo in the desert is the peak of human evolution. But even the most cynical London clubber has to admit the vibe is absolutely breathtaking, with an endless mirrored sky reflecting a completely unique, chilled-out energy. On the technical side, this is a very different beast, averaging 120.2 BPM but fluidly jumping across tempos in a live-looping masterclass.
The harmonic movement through 4B and 7A key progressions is seamless, blending live instrumentation with electronic beats to create a lush, organic Rominimal soundscape. For the crate digger crowd, the track selection is delightfully weird and wonderful. Slipping in an 8-bit cover with 'Clint Robinson - Ghostbusters' is proper having a laugh, while the inclusion of 'George Robert - The Windmills of Your Mind' brings genuine cinematic weight. The musical journey is incredibly intimate.
He kicks things off with the quirky opening track 'Clint Robinson - Ghostbusters (8 Bit Version)', builds to an emotional, sweeping peak with the stunning 'FKJ & Darius - Ô', and gently fades out into the ether with the lo-fi closing track 'Hugo Focus - Mastermind Study Beat'. A mad, beautiful trip.
