Anjunadeep The Yearbook 2017
There is a very specific type of lad who cries real tears over a minor chord progression while on his morning commute to a mid-level accounting job. These are the melodic house apologists, staring out of train windows, pretending they are the main character in an indie film while listening to a perfectly mixed compilation. The vibe is lush, emotional, and intensely cinematic, designed entirely to make you feel nostalgic for a summer you never actually had. Looking at the Anjunadeep Yearbook 2017 tracklist, this Anjunadeep live set is a flawless example of deep, emotional storytelling.
Cruising at a gentle 119.2 BPM average, the mix is heavily anchored in 12A and 7A keys to maximize the harmonic melancholy. The mixing is buttery soft, allowing the Rominimal textures and sweeping synths to wash over you in one continuous, dreamlike wave. The crate digging is immaculate, serving up the very best of the label's emotionally devastating anthems. Way Out West's 'Tuesday Maybe (Guy J Remix)' is an absolute masterstroke of progressive tension, but Township Rebellion's 'Gaia' is the undeniable peak that gets the hairs standing up.
The journey is beautifully crafted, easing in with the opening track 'Rove' by Tontario. It builds through layers of deep, melodic house before gently fading out with the closing track, the Jody Wisternoff & James Grant Remix of Xinobi's 'Far Away Place'. Sorted.
