WhoMadeWho
live at Cercle Odyssey, Mexico City, Mexico
It’s genuinely hilarious watching the minimalist purists who think anything with a vocal is commercial trash try to pretend they aren't enjoying themselves. They’re currently aggressively tapping their feet, desperately trying not to sing along with the bucket hat mafia who are having the time of their lives. A massive, hypnotic LED screen illuminates the [venue], casting a beautiful, cinematic glow over a sea of raised hands. If you’ve been furiously trying to find the [DJ] [venue] tracklist, this [DJ] live set is a deeply emotional trip within the Electronic genre.
The tempo is a perfectly restrained stroll, ranging from 119 to 125 with an average BPM of 122.5. Weaving through 12A and 4A keys, the energy arc is lush and sprawling, relying on incredibly long, patient blends that let the melodies completely wash over the crowd. The crate digging is heavily focused on atmospheric brilliance. Dropping 'WhoMadeWho - Never Alone (Patrice Bäumel Remix)' into the mix alongside 'Lannka - Solum' is an absolute masterclass in building emotional tension.
The narrative arc of the set is beautifully curated. Setting a haunting tone with the opening track 'WhoMadeWho - Saturday Pt.1', it hits an incredibly powerful emotional peak with 'WhoMadeWho & Kölsch - Heartless', before finally bowing out gracefully with the closing track, 'ARTBAT - Closer (feat. WhoMadeWho)', leaving even the grumpiest minimal heads in absolute awe.
